D3Aak is a 5.2 m long 3D printed barge boat, uniquely designed and inspired by the old Dutch ‘Aak’ shape, manufactured entirely without molds and made from recycled plastic. D3Aak is electrically powered and 100% recyclable after end of life.
For this project we applied 5D morphing i.e., the use of slicing via curved surfaces with variable bead height. This option was necessary for continuous shell edges, which would otherwise become staircases due to the difference in arc length of the front and side of the boat.
